- This book takes you into the secret world of espionage that few are aware of. Rich in historical detail, the reader will find themselves immersed in the world of spies an saboteurs that covers a 50 year career. I couldn't put it down!
- This was an incredible story and hard to believe it's true... Spy, espionage, prison breakouts and so much more. It's a story that I had not heard anything about and in a way reminded me of "Catch Me If You Can" and James Bond. Even though this man is far from a hero you do find yourself understanding how he became the man he did. It's a great listen and I definitely recommend it but I would caution that does have some graphic violence and a little bit of language and sexual content - it talks a little about the rapes of his mother and sister but there are no actual sex scenes. As a parent I would let my 7th grader and older listen to it but I will talk to them before and after.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. - In this page-turner, Quinn introduces us to a man who is probably the most extraordinary spy in world history. Very well written and Michael Gwynne’s narration was perfect. This is not the first spy biography that I’ve read, but it was definitely the most entertaining.
I highly recommend it to anyone interested in spies, espionage, especially in the context of WWI, WWII, and the Anglo-Boer war. I’d like to see the publication of the story behind the FBI agent who pursued Fritz Duquesne, I know it would be a great story.
This audiobook was offered to me for free, at my request, and I’m voluntarily offering this unbiased review. - Very interesting story, good telling of the character’s life. However, I was distracted since i constantly edited the book in my mind for clarity and sharpness of prose.
